Aerial Bunched Cable Definition
Aerial bunch cable consists xlpe insulated phase conductor and all three-phase conductors are twisted with each other over messenger wire. Phase conductor of ab cables can be either single-phase or three-phase. In addition to the phase conductor, an extra conductor is available for street lighting. AB cable consists of a messenger conductor beside the phase and lighting conductors that support the weight of the cable and keep the assembly under tension. The Messenger conductor works as a neutral conductor for the distribution system. This assembly strung through the j hook on the pole. they are preferred for the distribution of electricity in domestic commercial and small-scale industries. Aerial Bunched Cable insulation-
XLPE insulation is a cross-link low-density polyethylene. which is made by Thermo state. The polymeric property of xple makes this insulation flexible and high insulation.
Aerial bunch conductors are a new concept in electrical distribution systems. In the past, bare conductors or PVC cables were used in distribution systems to build lines and distribute electricity. But in today's time, ab cable is more useful in power distribution in LT line. The main reason for this is that the use of AB cable is effective in preventing theft of electricity, easy access to the line in the least space, and the possibility of an electrical accident is very less. The aerial beach is better used in rural areas and hill areas.
Benefits of Aerial Bunched Conductor-

Type of ab cable / Aerial bunched cable
There are four types of aerial bunched cable according to the requirement of the different systems.
- Insulated messenger conductor AB cable
- Messenger conductor AB cable
- Insulated messenger conductor with insulated street light AB cable
- Bare messenger conductor with insulated street light AB cable
Insulated messenger conductor AB cable
In this type of aerial bunched cable, along with the phase, the messenger conductor is also with xple insulation. The insulation of the messenger increases the life and current carrying capacity of the conductor. But the cost of the cable also increases. So this type of ab cable is less used.
Bare messenger conductor AB cable
In this type of aerial bunch cable, the phase conductors are insulated but the messenger conductor is not insulated. Using a bare messenger conductor saves cable cost. And it is also economical.
Insulated messenger conductor with insulated street light AB cable
In this type of aerial bunched cable, in addition to the phase neutral conductor, there is another cable which is called lighting cable. As we know phase conductor is always insulated. But messenger and street light conductor is also insulated in this type of cable. In the lighting cable distribution system, lighting is provided in the area along with an electric supply to the consumer. This type of cable is used the least in the distribution network.
Bare messenger conductor with insulated street light AB cable
This type of AB cable also has a phase, neutral conductor in addition to another cable called a lighting cable. As we know phase conductor is always insulated. But in this type of cable, the messenger conductor is bare but the street light conductor is insulated. In the lighting cable distribution system, lighting is also provided in the area along with an electric supply to the consumer. This type is used the most.
